The Shaw Muskegon is a new mixed-use condo and apartment community coming to Downtown Muskegon.
The Shaw Muskegon is located on the south shores of Muskegon Lake and within walking distance to the primary Western Avenue entertainment district in Downtown Muskegon.
Parkland Properties of Michigan acquired the property in 2023 and immediately began planning to transform this community jewel into a sense of pride once again for the Muskegon community. Parkland worked with state and local leaders, and within 2-years of purchasing the property, began site preparation work to prepare the site for conversion into a mixed-use community.
The buildings were designed by world renowned architect, Albert Kahn. The intention to detail is event today from the large bell columns to the board formed concrete ceilings. The construction methods used to build this structure are scarcely used today due to the cost.
The complex has withstood the test of time and will be around longer than many of the new structures being built today.
Commitment to sustainability
Parkland believes there are few things more sustainable than recycling an old building and returning it to a useful use. While portions of the buildings will not remain such as the crumbling brick façade and the broken windows, Parkland is taking efforts to salvage and re-use the concrete superstructure.
Construction
After acquiring the property in 2023, Parkland commenced site clean-up and preparation work in the summer of 2024 to prepare the property for construction in 2025.

The Shaw Muskegon is overlooking Muskegon Lake and the City’s Hartshorn Municipal Marina. It is within walking distance to the newly opened Muskegon’s Boys & Girls Club and the Muskegon County Heritage Landing events grounds. The complex is also adjacent to the Muskegon Bike Trail and a short walk to the main downtown, Western Avenue entertainment district, with restaurants, bars, museums and activity.
